Canossa College Frolics at 56

An educator realized that children need to rollick as well as study and learn. These are the words from Merriam-Webster to elaborate on rollick. And in about a fortnight's time (as of posting date), the school is going to rock the city with the celebration of its 56th Founding Day.

From February 10-12, Canossa College will step back from books and notes, and take a breather to make way for a three-day fete in the school grounds. The whole community is now preparing for the activities that will be held on the said dates.

Canossian Youth Camp 2011: A year to Stand Firm in Faith

"We are never top young to come as one and to make a stand."

2011 is a year of double celebration. Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines had declared December 16, 2010 to December 16, 2011 as the "Year of the Youth" and the "Year of Life". This was in response to CBCP's contention of saying "NO to RH bill." In line with these celebrations of life, the college department, through the initiative of Sr. Magnolia Nuncio, FdCC and Sr. Rita Nedtran, FdCC with the coordination of HRC, conducted a Canossian Youth Camp last July 21. The First part of the camp was held at the school auditorium and the second part was happened at Canossa San Rafael. Through the general theme, "Stand Firm in Faith," the event had two-fold aim: to provide an opportunity for the students to appreciate the presence of one another in celebrating the year of the youth, and to provide a venue for the students to be on their guard and to do their works in love.

The camp was started with the celebration of the Eucharist administered by Rev. Fr. Nino Formeloza. Afterwards, the campers went at the auditorium to register and be energized by the dance moves which Canossa Dance Company prepared especially for such event. It was then taught to all college students. After being fully charged by the dancer routine, the campers were grouped into 16 groups. Ms. Aileen Juaneza, the school guidance councilor gave some talks about knowing who Canossian is. It was followed by the singing of the youth camp's theme song entitled, "Make a Stand" which gave way to unfold the first session themed, "Be on Guard". The students created a liner incorporating their sharings and insights about the reality of S.M.A.R.T. Canossian in family, mass media, society, school, church, and environment and their dreams touching the aforementioned areas. Such activity was simultaneously done with the distribution of snacks provided by the College Faculty and Clinical Instructors. After each group presented their liner creatively, the film showing was started. Students shared in the group their enlightenments about the film entitled," Facing the Giants. "

To prepare the campers physically for the second part themed, "Do all Works in LOVE," food was served at the school canteen. Few minutes later, the amazing race officially started the second part of the camp. During the race each group walked while doing all the tasks that were assigned in each station which the group passed on. After almost an hour of silence, chanting, singing, and crab walking, the campers reached Canossa San Rafael where trails and obstacle courses were done. According to one of the campers, "It was a rare experience of hardship yet enjoyment in unity with their respective groupmates." Thirty minutes were given for the campers to rest and to encounter the solemnity and the beauty of the place. Then, Sr. Magnolia Nuncio, FdCC and Sr. Rita Nedtran, FdCC, the instructresses of the youth camp, gave some recap of the activities done halfway to the main course of the event, the commitment portion of the camp. But before such highlight, three activities, namely; Trust Fall, Star Gate, and Magic Carpet, aim to develop a sense of unity among the members of each group. The campers then settled themselves together with their groupmates to talk their commitments which were written on a piece of paper with the signatures of each member. And to give symbolism to the camper's commitment, tree planting was done.

The camp was ended with an assembly wherein the main facilitators, Sr. Rita and Sr. Magnolia, acknowledged the CCSC and CCNO officers for their willingness and initiative to facilitate the youth camp. Everybody decamp the field with joy, peace, and unity to live up their commitments. The event would not be made possible without the guidance of the college faculty and clinical instructors. As a whole, the camp was indeed a success for it motivated the college students to stand firm in their faith as S.M.A.R.T. youth Canossians in transforming the world towards a better place to live.
